INTRODUCTION
To make 1 highball
2 ounces whiskey
2 ice cubes
4 to 6 ounces cold club soda or ginger ale
A 6- to 8-ounce highball glass
PROCEDURE
A highball may be defined as a tall iced drink consisting of a generous jigger (or more) of whiskey, ice cubes and enough carbonated beverage to nearly fill the highball glass. Use a glass stirring rod to stir quickly and lightly. It is advisable to make a medium highball of 6 to 8 ounces rather than a taller one, because the ice melts and dilutes the drink as it stands.
The most popular combinations for highballs are bourbon and club soda, Scotch and club soda. Bourbon and Scotch are often preferred with cold water instead of club soda.
RESULTS

A solid 3/5, I decided to quote myself from my post on star ratings, "3/5 is good, drink is fine, not the best, not the worst, may or may not revisit. But if I had it in my hand I would definitely drink it, no complaints." I decided to try both versions with the club soda and the ginger ale, the ginger ale was a high 3/5, I preferred the sweetness. Nothing too special with this drink, not even a cute garnish. I also do not own a glass stir rod (yet) so I used a plastic straw to stir :)
Hope you enjoy the photo montage, pretty cut and dry:
DISCUSSION
A Highball is a genre of drink essentially it's composed of a base spirit and a larger proportion of a mixer (non-alcoholic), often a carbonated beverage. Examples include the Seven and Seven (or in my family we have Bourbon and Sevens), Scotch and soda, gin and tonic, Screwdriver, and rum and Coke. A highball is typically served over ice in a large straight-sided highball glass or Collins glass.
And now you can ponder this as you sip on your favorite highball beverage, cheers!
