INTRODUCTION

To make 1 tall drink

1 1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice

3 ounces gin

1 teaspoon superfine sugar

3 to 4 ice cubes

2 ounces cold club soda

PROCEDURE

Place the lemon juice, gin and sugar in a mixing glass and stir with a bar spoon to dissolve the sugar. Add the ice cubes and place a shaker on the mixing glass. Grasping them firmly together with both hands, shake vigorously 8 to 10 times. Remove the shaker, place a strainer over the mixing glass, and pour into the chilled highball glass. Rinse the shaker with the club soda and pour into the glass

A sloe gin fizz is made the same way substituting sloe gin (not a gin but a liqueur made from blackthorn berries) for the dry gin and using only 1/2 teaspoon sugar.

RESULTS

Alrighty I have to say solid start to this journey. I love a gin fizz and I would 10/10 make it again. I found it fit the name, very fizzy and there was gin. I thought it was sour but I quite liked that. Overall I gave it 4/5 stars, I think to me this means like I just said I would make it again, I really enjoyed it but it's not being put on my list of absolute favorites. I also realize I did not exactly follow the instructions because I did not even read them. Oh well learning curve.

So below I have the images from drink number one. I'm not sure yet how to add captions or how I'll be laying out my posts but here's the commentary for the images. I have pictured the players of this game, club soda brought to you by Kroger (pls sponsor), Burnett's gin (an absolute favorite of mine), a lemon, powdered sugar, a "highball glass" AKA glass that is 8-12 ounces (I don't own a traditional highball glass yet so I used a skinny pint glass), and ice. Next up is my handy dandy measurement device. The recipes usually call for a jigger or 1 1/2 ounces. I used the conversion chart to find that 3 tablespoons is 1 1/2 ounces, I did a quick experiment with water and a tablespoon to discover that to the middle of the hooter's eyes is exactly 1 1/2 ounces. Perfect. I measured out the lemon juice (approximately 1 1/2 lemons), gin, powdered sugar, and club soda. I added ice (way more than 3-4 cubes because I love a well iced beverage and I do not like when my glass is not completely full) and took my first blog selfie. And there you have it... a gin fizz!

DISCUSSION

Cheers to my first post!! So I'm gonna set some precedents here since that seems the thing to do. I want to always add pictures since I anticipate days where I won't have much to say. I always want to include a selfie of before and during my first sip. This means no matter how I look my face is getting posted (get ready for lots of pics of me in hats). I am probably going to be using my hooters measuring device throughout this journey since most recipes are in 1 1/2 ounce increments and I find the measurement location convenient for the memory. Side note, this was gifted to me by my grandfather so special shout out to him for being the coolest. I want to rate my drinks out of five stars based strictly on MY preferences. If I drink with friends or family I might include their opinions as well unless I think they're wrong (haha jk it's not called an opinion for nothing). I will almost definitely be cheesy and borderline cringe in my posts, I can't help it, it's my writing style and I like to type as if I'm speaking to you... my valued readers.

I'm not sure if I'll have a discussion bit every time or if I do I don't know what I'll talk about, maybe life, maybe my ponderings, maybe a haiku. But either way that's one recipe down, 116 to go (I still need to recount and make sure it's 117 total). I hope to see you tomorrow for the next one. Cheers!
