FORMULATION

To make 1 hot drink

1 1/2 teaspoons superfine sugar

A 1-inch piece cinnamon stick

3 ounces rum

1 cup hot milk

1 tablespoon unsalted butter

Ground nutmeg

A 12-ounce mug

PROCEDURE

Wash the mug with very hot water and shake it dry. Place the sugar, piece of cinnamon stick and rum in the mug, and stir to dissolve the sugar. Pour in the hot milk, top with the tablespoon of butter, and sprinkle with ground nutmeg.

RESULTS

Yeah... not good. I had to revisit my star ratings to make sure this got the right one and here is the definition, "Did not like, will not drink again. Can swallow a sip or two but no more. Tried it but would not do it again. " I gave this a couple sips, a swish in the mug, then another sip just to make sure and I can confirm it was bad. Maybe the spiced rum added too much spice.. but I don't think there's any sort of tweak that can fix this, it tastes like hot rubbing alcohol with spices. Since I didn't know if I'd like this or not I thankfully only made half a recipe so I'd waste less. The sink drank well tonight :)

I, however, recovered the night by popping open a new bottle of gin I got while in St. Pete. Apparently St. Pete has a couple distilleries and Dad and I stopped in for a tasting at Old St. Pete Distillery, we met the gin distiller (only female distiller in St. Pete woop woop), and of course I had to buy a bottle (wow count how many times I typed St. Pete and distiller...). Anywho the gin and tonic gets a SOLID 5/5. Love it, love the gin, big fan!

Here are the unfortunate images from the first drink followed up with the holy and blessed St. Pete Gin images.

DISCUSSION

Wow bonus two posts in one, you are welcome and for everyone's viewing pleasure I added a picture of my cute Christmas tree! So beautiful :')

If any of you do have any good hot boozey recipes please let me know. I'm coming down with a little cold or something and I thought a hot drink sounded so good (key word "sounded"). Plus now that it's chilly and winter here and I have my tree up, I just want to cozy up with a mug full of something and blog about it. I can't wait to try the coffee drinks and actually good hot drinks, I need to buy some Irish whiskey and Jamaican rum first!! Until then cheers!
