INTRODUCTION
To make 1 cocktail
1 ounce fresh lemon juice
3 ounces blended whiskey
1 teaspoon superfine sugar
3 to 4 ice cubes
1 maraschino cherry
1 slice orange
A 4-ounce Delmonico or whisky sour glass, chilled
PROCEDURE
Combine the lemon juice, whiskey and sugar in a mixing glass, and stir with a bar spoon to dissolve the sugar. Add the ice cubes. Place a shaker on top of the mixing glass and, grasping them firmly together with both hands, shake vigorously. Place the cherry and the orange slice in the chilled glass. Remove the shaker, place a strainer on top of the mixing glass, and pour into the chilled glass.
There are numerous variations of the whisky sour, all made in precisely the same way. Brandy, apricot brandy, Scotch bourbon, applejack, rum or gin may be substituted for the blended whiskey.
RESULTS

To be honest, I'm writing this like a week after I made this drink and I'm having trouble remembering my commentary on the results. I usually make a couple notes in my recipe book but this one I just gave it the 3/5 stars so I'm going to take that as just sort of uneventful, it's a sour whiskey drink. I do remember it being a little too on the sour side for me, I also wish it could have been mixed with ginger ale or something. Just wasn't the best, mediocre I'd say, just not for me, but I still drank the whole thing.
In other exciting news, this was the first time I got to use my drink strainer that my dad got me!! He got me one other gift too while I was home in FL so stay tuned for that! I had to google what a Delmonico glass was and I didn't really get a solid answer. I googled whiskey sour glass and again varying results. I had this red hook glass in my stash, I know it says brewery on it but it looked to be about 4 ounces and felt like the right fit for this drink so I just rolled with it. As you can see below, we have a lot of fruits going into this beverage which is fun. After adding everything and giving it a good stir and shake, I got to use my very fancy strainer. It's honestly more fun than pouring it out of the top. I felt like a legit mixologist. I included a reaction shot of my face after the first sip because true to the name, this bad boy was sour.
DISCUSSION
Pretty self explanatory name here, whisky - sour. Straight. To. The. Point. No google or (nor?) explanation needed. So it's obvious with this post I'm playing catch up right now with my blog posts which is challenging and very on brand for me. So slowly I catch up while of course not pausing on mixing new drinks so that's two steps forward one step back almost every night. I'm also beginning to think about legitimately starting a business. Not now per se. But soon, sometime in the future. I've been thinking about opening my own bar for so long and I read a quote today that said, "If you can't stop thinking about it, don't stop working for it." So that's my hard set goal now, no longer in dream phase, it's my goal and I will accomplish it.
