INTRODUCTION
To make 1 cocktail
3 ounces fresh grapefruit juice
4 ounces vodka
Pinch of superfine or confectioner's sugar
4 to 6 ice cubes
An 8-ounce wine glass, chilled
PROCEDURE
Combine the grapefruit juice, vodka, sugar and 3 to 4 ice cubes in a mixing glass, and stir gently with a bar spoon to dissolve the sugar and combine the ingredients. Place a strainer on top of the mixing glass and pour into the chilled wine glass. Add 1 ice cube to the wine glass if desired.
RESULTS

WOWOW love this drink but whoo 4 ounces of vodka per drink, be careful. And 5/5 stars means it certainly goes down easy. I have to say I added a little extra sugar and I shouldn't have, trust the process, it was plenty sweet from the grapefruit which I juiced by hand (took such a long time). The pulp clogged the strainer so it trickled out like drip coffee. But worth it!! While drinking I couldn't help but crave a salted rim, that salty sweet combo would have been such a flavor boost. Plus I thought it would be super cool to have a pink drink with pink salt (ideas for next time). Anyways, a beautiful and delicious drink, cheers!
DISCUSSION
I loved this drink and will definitely be revisiting it, with the salted rim, and I bet it would be good with gin too. Upon giving it a google, I found that it is very commonly served with a salted rim and gin!! I have to say, I have good drink intuition :)
I wanted to know what "Salty Dog" meant, I've heard the term but wasn't sure, Wikipedia says, "Salty Dog is a nickname for an ornery Sailor or a U.S. Marine who has spent much of his or her life aboard a ship at sea. A Salty Dog is also called old salt or true grit." Perhaps this is referring to the heavy pour of vodka?
Oh I also thought it was funny this recipe allows one ice cube. As if that one will make a difference, I still added it because I love ice.
Hopefully you, my loyal readers, will get a chance to try this drink sometime as well :)
