INTRODUCTION
To make 1 tall drink
Juice of 1/2 lime
3 ounces rum
3 to 4 ice cubes
6 ounces cola drink
1 slice lime
A Tom Collins glass
PROCEDURE
Combine the juice of half a lime, the rum and ice cubes in a tall Tom Collins glass. Fill the glass with cola, stir, and garnish with a slice of lime.
RESULTS

I chose this drink because I had all the ingredients and didn't feel like going out and spending money. I also love a rum and coke, such a classic. I don't usually put lime juice in but I loved the added touch. As you can see 5 out of 5 stars, would definitely make again and one of my favorites :)
Alrighty images below are pretty self explanatory but I'll give a synopsis anyways. I also failed to read the instructions again assuming I knew more than this Wine and Spirits book.. shame on me. I added things slightly out of order but I'd say results are the same.
Ok first up we have the main characters, rum, coke, lime, ice. I added the half of lime and in my head I'm thinking I should just do the whole thing, but no trust the process it would have been too much, don't do it. Again I don't have a "Tom Collins" glass so I went for a fun pint glass. Next up two Hoots of rum of choice, I chose Captain's Spiced Rum, my fav for rum and cokes, I like the little extra something good ol' spiced Cap adds. Next I'm adding have of a can of Coke Zero, I hate adding calories to a drink so anytime I can keep my mixers zero cal I 100% will. Ice to the top and here I am in a hat very happy for my drink and first sip going down easy.
DISCUSSION
I know we're thinking the same thing.. Where did this name come from. With my Spanish experience I figured it meant Free Cuba but what's the significance?? Here's some straight copied and pasted info I found online:
"The name of the drink, Cuba Libre, means “Free Cuba,” which was the battle cry of the Cuban Liberation Army. ... Supposedly, a captain ordered rum and cola on ice with lime and enjoyed it so much that he got the other soldiers to order around and they toasted, “Por Cuba Libre!” to celebrate the freedom of Cuba."
How fitting I used Captain's for this drink, it's like deep down I knew. Here's to Cuba! Cheers!
